Fitted the Mirrors without covers, ABT boot badge and US Spec rear lights plus rubbed down the exterior trim. My Matt black VW grille badge turned up today so need to fit that tomorrow  Gonna leave it a few weeks to really set hard before going near it like that, anyway fitted the Matt black grille badge to the grille insert. Primed all the external trim. Then added a base coat of Black. Door seals and door light pin switches fitted. Windscreen seal and hood lock catches fitted. First two items ready to go for a nice shotblast and powder coating. The lovely smooth Mk3.5 roll hoop side trims fitted. Engine bay battery tray in it's final position (I think :lolno: ) Hood motor and counter weight thingy all bolted up. Walk around No 1 with no floodlights on. Walk around No 2 with floodlights on.

Swapped over the suspension from the Mk3 to the 3.5 so it now has coilovers and the Mk3 looks like a 4x4  Front with the negative camber bolts. Plus rear camber shims have turned up too. Got some Mk3 5 door rear handles and armoured door plates. Plus some polished door lock bolts. My new polishing kit. Also got a polished VR6 inlet manifold ready for the new donor and some red conduit to try and hide the engine bay wiring harness. And red conduit fitted. My collection is growing for all the items to be powder coated white  First interior upgrade are these German imported carbon fibre style heated control knobs. Making room for the VR6 that'll be turning up next weekend Another quick update today, been slowly stripping down a quite rusty rear beam axle off the 3.5. So now have the Beam and the hangers ready for shot blasting and powder coating. Also got the rear calipers ready for the same treatment. Don't think I can save the rear back plates. Also today my new ABT keyring arrived. And this six cylinder beast turned up with it's new home lined up Attached to this. (That Stainless exhaust will also be moving over to the Cabrio) Think this will turn into a 4 stud 2.0 8v van  So I'll be needing these 5 stud hubs for the Cabrio too. The VR is out, subframe and all as all required for the Cabrio. Leaving one tired looking engine bay  Swapped the stainless exhaust system over to the Cabrio. Also needed to swap the 5 stud rear brakes over which the last owner had only just up graded. Fitted the Mk3.5's front subframe into the VR's shell and the 4 stud alloys off the Mk3 Cabrio. Also fitted the 4 stud rear hubs and alloys so the VR's shell is now rolling again, not sure on the stance though

Have been thinking long and hard of an easy way to fit a washer bottle in the smoothed bay and then remembers that some 4x4's including the Fourtrak have a bladder type bottle inside the rear door, so looked on Ebay and found this including the motor and bracket for £8.00  This fits in the space in front of the wheel between the bumper and chassis rail like where they fit the horns on the opposite side. Getting ready to clean and paint the VR. Got the dash out to replace the heater matrix and fit the VR's pedalbox and hydraulic clutch. Heater matrix out and also the dash cross member. These turned up on friday and after 4 weeks of travelling from the States via Holland my US Spec Mk3.5 front bumper moulding has arrived along with a Seat Leon Cupra splitter. On stripping down the exterior items on the VR engine I decided to remove the water pump to see if it was in working order, what do you think??? :lolno: Judging by the marks there is a leak from both the rocker cover and the crank oil seal. So out comes the wire wheel on the grinder and what a difference straight away. Clutch master cylinder needing a clean and paint, but here's it's new home. Found the VR has a cabin filter, so that gets swapped over And here's the VR's engine loom waiting to get the Red conduit and fitting. Another visit down the unit resulted in a lot of work on all 3 Golf's, stripping out dashboards to swap over pedal boxes and engine bay wiring harnesses. But as a progress report on the Mk3.5 I have painted the base coat black on the US Spec front bumper moulding and started to fit the SEAT Leon Cupra splitter.

Pic update  Heater matrix now fitted and heater bolted up to the bulkhead, nice to see two pipes poking out now. The Wolfsburg wing repeater blanks fitted and looking amazing, big thanks to Dan @ Devon Dub Shack for sourcing these. More work done tonight on fitting the splitter, drilled and bolted up with 5mm Allen key bolts. Fitted bumper to the Cabrio to get a better idea on trimming it down at the ends. Quick view of the front. Trimmed down with a hacksaw, will smooth off at the weekend, but pretty much sorted. Just need to sort grille and bolt up the number plate bracket. Using the Mk3's fusebox to copy from I managed to plug in the VR6's engine bay wiring harness (and the 2.0i harness into the VR6 shell) Robbed the Mk3 Cabrio of it's boot trim. And here's the batteries new home. Grille and ABT badge in place, needs painting body colour yet. Started to paint the VR6 engine. And painted the brake calipers and servo.

She's on the floor but engine less, had to move her back to get plenty of move in front to get access with the engine crane. Trimmed up the front for the camera's. Nice bit of front camber. Nice bit of rear camber, rear too low. Not having the same problem as I did with the Mk3!!! Should look good with some staggered wheels and the rear mouldings sorted. Next job before Xmas is get the engine in and the dash. Another view of the front of the Cabrio, will be fitting R32 black headlights, US number plate bracket and lower bumper grilles. A few bits saved from the scrappy have become stage 1 of my workstation. Back again after Xmas and all that goes with that, but have been busy finding the leather I needed and checking the oil leak. Firstly split the engine and gearbox to find the crankshaft oil seals are fine. But look in the bellhousing, spoke to the last owner to find out it's had a new sump after a fight with the ground. Found a full leather trim for £130 delivered, needed a really good clean. Decided to fit cream sunvisors to match the leather instead of the black (for a change lol) Also found a cream tonneau cover to match the interior for £30 delivered, again it needed a good clean but turned out great too. Plus just had a copy of the last Dyno test on the donor VR6!!!
